The theme of this year's Congress is "Beginning A New Era - Initiatives in Space." Panel sessions and paper presentations will address how the combined efforts of the scientific, commercial, military and educational communities contributed in the past, and will in the future, to the growth of knowledge and understanding of space and to the well being of humankind around the world.

The 39th Space Congress invites individuals from the United States and international communities wishing to offer papers and presentations on the listed subjects a 200 word abstract no later than November 9, 2001 to:

E-mailed abstracts are preferred. Indicate on the top of each abstract which technical paper session you believe your paper best fits, chosen from the list below. Also attach your professional affiliation, return mailing address, e-mail address, fax and telephone numbers. All abstracts will be forwarded to the appropriate Paper Session Chairman, who will make the final selection of papers to be presented and published in the Congress Proceedings. The abstract authors who are selected for presentations will be notified by the end of November. These presenters will be given specific instructions and format requirements by the paper sessions organizers. Papers in final form must reach this office no later than January 18, 2002 to be included in the Space Congress Proceedings.

Topics for the Technical Paper Sessions:

A New Era in Access to Space - A worldwide look at launch vehicles and facilities, future space transportation initiatives (i.e. X-37, X-40), spaceport technology, and future DoD initiatives. Papers are sought on all aspects of launch vehicles, including, design, systems, upgrades and launch facilities, as well as propulsion advancements and research.

Space Business Initiatives - This session will address State, National and Global Commercial space initiatives and partnerships (i.e. SERPL), including satellite services. Papers are sought on business cases for space, space policy, business partnerships, spaceports, space tourism, privatization, and new or unusual launch services.

ISS -A New Era in Human Presence in Space - An exciting look at the International Space Station advances, mission milestones, mission operations and accomplishments. Papers are sought on topics such as the ISS elements, issues in space construction, operations, long duration concerns, closed loop environmental systems and utilization.

Exploration Initiatives-This session will include recent exciting discoveries in the our galaxy and beyond, including comets in our solar system, and black holes and neutron stars in deep space. Papers are sought from the scientific community on recent near and deep space discoveries from deep space observatories such as the Chandra X-ray Observatory and earth based observatories.

Cutting Edge Technology - Papers are sought for a broad spectrum of technology initiatives, including discoveries in space related research, advances in human exploration and development of space, transfer of technology to the private sector that now touches our everyday lives, and DOD cutting edge initiatives.

Hubble Discoveries - Scientists will reveal recent discoveries and findings from the Hubble Space Telescope in addition to information of the Next Generation Space Telescope (no papers sought).

Education - Papers are sought on space based educational programs, research grants, facilities, opportunities for space based scientific research, as well as fostering youth programs to include extra curricular activities for school age children, and projects to implement in the classroom.

Florida's Role in Space - A look at Florida's leadership role in space research programs. Papers are sought on initiatives that will ensure Florida as a leader in research and development, and scientific advancements that may include biotechnology, material science research and spin-offs.

Preparing for the Future, by Looking at Our Past - This session will chronicle historical perspectives of our nation's pride - an incredible space program, including heritage launch programs, interesting lessons learned and application to future initiatives.
